Abstract
Magnetic field generation in a rare-collision plasma with high-frequency (Langmuir or electromagnetic) waves is studied. The high-frequency waves give rise to an aperiodic instability of magnetostatic pulsations - improper plasma modes which are mainly magnetic energy carriers - and thus lead to the magnetic field generation. Analytic expressions for the maximum growth rates are derived for optimal cases. The growth rates are functions of the dimensionless pump energy density and plasma parameters.
