Abstract

High-field superconducting magnets are of increasing importance for the levitation of objects and materials processing, whose success depends on the detailed knowledge of the magnetic field and force distribution in the solenoid. Here we propose an elegant analytical approach for calculation based on a simple equation for the axial field of thick solenoid. Experimental examples illustrate its application to the design of magnets and the simulation of the complex motion of water droplets and plastic balls levitating in liquid medium under dynamic conditions.
