Abstract

Bichromophoric chain molecules, p-O 2NC 6H 4O(CH 2) 12NBzC 6H 5 (Bz= *CX 2C 6H 5, *C= 12C or 13C, X=H or D), undergo two different intramolecular photoreactions involving the benzylic and methylene chain oxidations. The end product ratio for two competitive processes depends upon the magnetic field strength and nuclear magnetic moments within biradical intermediates.
