Abstract
Zeeman shifts of the order of 10 -4-10 -3 of the inhomogeneous spectral linewidths have been observed in the 0-0 transition of free-base porphin dissolved in amorphous polyethylene at 4.2 K by means of hole-burning. The value of the magnetic susceptibility, sol:1 2 X zz = 60.6 Mhz/T 2 , was determined, in good agreement with that found in a crystalline host. Thus quantitative information on magneto-optical properties of excited states of complex molecules can be extracted from disordered materials with a resolution in the MHz-regime.
