Abstract

Magnetic flux leakage(MFL) testing is one of the methods used for non-destructive evaluation, and is a suitable method for inspecting ferromagnetic objects. Mathematical modeling of leakage flux due to MFL testing helps to better understand and utilize MFL testing. The existing mathematical modeling methods of MFL testing can be classified into three types. This paper proposes a novel mathematical modeling method using magnetic dipole moment. The proposed magnetic dipole moment modeling method is introduced, and the performance is verified by comparing the proposed modeling results with the existing dipole modeling results.
