Abstract

The induction repulsive-type superconducting Maglev system is now under intensive study in many countries. The lift force in this system is produced by the superconducting magnet on the vehicle and the conducting plate (mainly aluminum plate) or the short-circuited ground coil. The system using the conducting plate is called the sheet track system and the system using the short-circuited coil is called the looped track system. It is shown that the magnetic damping and stiffness coefficients are closely associated not only with the eddy current induced in the sheet directly by the vertical motion of vehicles, but also with another kind of eddy current which is induced by the variation of vehicle coil current due to the vertical motion of vehicles. A mathematical model is used to perform a space harmonic analysis to clarify the end effect of vehicle coils, and the results are discussed.
