Abstract

The M1 band in KCl shows a weak, temperature independent magnetic circular dichroism which is interpreted as due to a magnetic mixture of the excited state of this band with those of M2 and M2' bands. The magnetic circular dichroisms of the R1, R2 and RM bands of R centres in KCl have also been measured at liquid helium temperatures.
