Abstract

The authors describe a magnetic circuit analysis of a permanent-magnet-type synchronous motor using the finite element method. The effect of the size of the permanent magnets on the static thrust characteristics is investigated, and a prototype machine is fabricated on the basis of the results. Measured values of the static thrust and normal force of the prototype machine have been compared with the calculated values obtained by the finite element method. >
