Abstract

Conventional tapes consist of very small magnetic particles which are oriented in the direction of tape motion. In contrast to this, ME tapes (Metal Evaporated) are produced by oblique evaporation. This leads to the direction of easy magnetization being inclined to the film plane at an angle of typically 20° to 25°. From the newly developed “angular remanence curve” the position of the magnetically easy direction can easily be determined. Furthermore, the angular remanence curve allows an insight into the magnetization reversal process.
