Abstract

Investigation were made of the anomalous behaviour of inverse paramagnetic susceptibility versus temperature and also of lack of additivity of the effective paramagnetic moments versus concentration estimated from the slope of the inverse susceptibility curve for the series of Gd1−xErxAl2 alloys. The results can be explained by taking into account the crystal electric field Hamiltonian with a dominant second order term contribution due to the Gd/Er ions random substitution. The situation is similar to that observed in the amorphous alloys.
