Abstract

Magnetic measurements have been performed on a TbRh 2Si 2 single crystal. The magnetic susceptibilities show an antiferromagnetic behavior with Néel temperature of 94 K. In a low temperature, a two-step metamagnetic transition is seen along the easy c-axis. The critical fields are H C 1 = 8.8 and H C 2 = 16.3 T at 4.2 K. The magnetization is 4.49 μ B/f.u. on the first step and the saturation value of 9.05 μ B/f.u. on the 2nd step. The H–T phase diagram was constructed where there are three magnetic phases: an antiferromagnetic, ferrimagnetic and field induced ferromagnetic phase. These magnetic behaviors are explained by a wave-like molecular field model.
