Abstract

Field and temperature dependences of magnetization have been measured for the first time along the principal axes of a LuFe 10Si 2 single crystal. The compound is a ferromagnet with a spontaneous magnetic moment of 18.0 μ B per formula unit (at 4.2 K), a Curie temperature of 540 K and a uniaxial magnetic anisotropy described by a first-order anisotropy constant of 1.77 MJ/m 3 at 4.2 K.
