Abstract

Magnetic properties of Pr 1− x A x CoO 3 (A=Sr and Ba) have been investigated for 0⩽ x⩽0.5. While the end compound PrCoO 3 exhibits no magnetic order, the Sr and Ba substitution for Pr leads to ferromagnetic order with the Curie temperature T C⩽∼250 K. For Pr 1− x Ba x CoO 3, T C has a maximum of ∼190 K at x=0.3–0.4, while Pr 1− x Sr x CoO 3 shows a monotonic increase in T C with increasing x. Magnetization at 4.5 K changes almost linearly with logarithm of time, indicating the existence of extremely slow relaxation processes such as spin- or cluster-glasses.
