Abstract

We have investigated the properties of MnBi film with the variant additives. It was found that MnBi film with Al shows very fine characters: large perpendicular anisotropy and coercivity, intrinsic Kerr rotation θk approaching to 2 degrees, small grain size about 40nm and very good thermal stability. On a small MnBiAl magneto-optical disc up to 105 writing and erasing circles and large output can be performed. The result on MnBi films with the other additives indicated that in order to remaining the good magneto-optical characters the hcp structure of the doping's films must be kept and that the Tc point decreases with increase of the index d, the face distance between the hexagonal base planes. The reason of the Kerr rotation enhancement is explained by the change of the electronic structure near the Fermi level after Al doping.
