Abstract

We have studied the magnetic and magneto-optical properties of Fe/Fe 3O 4 multilayers prepared by pulsed laser deposition (PLD). X-ray diffractometry (XRD) results proved the period multilayer structure. SQUID measurements at room temperature are consistent with the results of XRD. SQUID measurements at 10 K indicate strong exchange coupling between soft Fe layer and hard Fe 3O 4 layer. The magneto-optical Kerr effect (MOKE), measured in the wavelength range from 400 to 900 nm, reveals dependencies of the MOKE spectra on the arrangement of the layers. We observed enhancement of Kerr effect under suitable arrangement of the layers. The experiment data are quantitatively reproduced by multilayer magneto-optical stack calculations.
