Abstract
The saturation magnetization, M s, the uniaxial anisotropy, K u, the Faraday rotation, θ F, and the Faraday ellipticity, Ψ F, of epitaxial garnet films of composition Y 3− x−y Pr x Bi y FE 5O 12 have been investigated for 0 ⩽ x ⩽1.8 and 0 ⩽ y ⩽ 1.7. The Pr 3+ ions induce a negative and the Bi 3+ ions a positive uniaxial anisotropy and both give rise to strong changes in M s and θ F.
