Abstract

The NMR and dielectric relaxation data on the isotropic melt of p-azoxyanisole have been analyzed in terms of conventional relaxation theories. The observed discrepancies are interpreted by considering the reorientation of the methoxy end groups. NMR results are used to evaluate the “retardation factor” related to the low frequency region of the dielectric dispersion in the nematic mesophase.
