Abstract

The degradation of the environment due to the application of petroleum products leads to the requirement of eco-friendly lubricants. The nanoparticles also provide a better improvement in the efficiency of lubricants. In this prospect, this study proposes the friction and wear characterization of the neem oil with the effect of MgO nanoparticles. The nanoparticles are mixed to the base oil in various concentrations. The ultrasonication process was used for the appropriate dispersal of the nanoparticles to the oil. The concentration of 0.6% produces improved results in terms of reducing friction. The wear of the surface also comes smooth with 0.6% concentration. The worn surface was also analyzed using Scanning Electron Microscope and improvement as additive of nanoparticle was observed with a reduction on the wear of the surfaces.
