Abstract
1. 1. There were two major peaks in the concentration of Mg 2+ in the eggshells of 3 species of Galliformes, 2 species of Pteroclidiformes and 35 species of Anseriformes; one peak occurred in the cone layer and the other at the outer edge of the shell. 2. 2. There was only one major peak (in the cone layer) in the eggshells of 99 species of birds belonging to the Megapodidae (Galliformes) or 12 orders of birds other than those listed above.
