Abstract

This article analyses the way in which social changes in late modernity are related to the experiences of the mothers, taking as case of study the city of La Plata, Argentina. For this, we made 30 interviews in depth with mothers of two generations (1970 and 2000) of medium socio-economic level. One of the main findings was the persistence of a traditional model of distribution of the roles, but with modern characteristics in child rearing: abundant information and many changes in the expectation of child care. This is a setting where new practices of maternity have been adopted in an old scenario of values.
