Abstract

Madelung's disease, also known as Launois-Bensaude syndrome, was first described by Brodie in 1846. Madelung later described a series of 33 patients with “cervical lipomatosis” in 1888 [1]. It is a rare condition and only about 200 cases have been reported in the literature [2]. The disorder predominantly affects males of Mediterranean and Caucasian descent [3]. It seldom involved the lower extremities. Here we describe a patient with Madelung's disease who presented symptoms mimicking deep vein thrombosis in his left lower leg.
