Abstract

Reviews have been made of the static thermal stability of the conductors cooled by pool boiling, in which stress has been laid on establishing a physical foundation of and the relationship between the Maddock criterion and Wipf's MPZ (minimum propagating zone). The former leads to the maximum allowable transport current, while the latter does not. An extensive analytical and numerical study is presented for a practical characteristic of pool boiling heat transfer. Results indicate that the Maddock criterion is just a special case of the MPZ equilibrium and provides the lowest possible transport current which allows the MPZ equilibrium.
