Abstract

AbstractExamination of Madagascan species placed in Stenichnaphes (Scydmaeninae) revealed remarkable differences in thoracic and male genital structures in relation to the type species of this genus, described from New Zealand. Results of comparative study of similar glandulariine genera (all sharing the submentum laterally demarcated by sutures) strongly support a separate placement of the Madagascan species: Madagaphes gen. nov. is proposed, resulting in Madagaphes madagassicus (Franz) comb. nov. (type species of Madagaphes), Madagaphes sakarahanus (Franz) comb. nov. and Madagaphes similis (Franz) comb. nov. All these species are redescribed to facilitate identifications.
