Abstract

A new local refinement technique of the MAC mesh systems is presented for simulating three-dimensional indoor air distribution using composite mesh networks. Three-dimensional laminar and turbulent airflows in rectangular model rooms are analyzed using the present method with locally refined mesh systems. The simulation is compared with the results obtained by the conventional single mesh approach of fine and coarse mesh systems. The results of turbulent flow simulation agree with the experiment. These comparisons indicate that the new method is able to provide the same solutions as the uniformly fine single mesh cases with less computational effort.
