Abstract

AbstractThe Internet of Things (IoT) has been envisioned as a large-scale network of objects which have the ability to interact with one another. The IoT is a new technology paradigm and a significant area of future technology. The IoT has grabbed wide attention in various industries and has also shown proficient growth. Machine to machine (M2M) is a communication system in the IoT that endorses the group of devices to communicate with each other. The mobile communication system is optimized by M2M and standardized by 3GPP. Motivation of this chapter is that the communication system facilitated with the IoT has performed their actions autonomously without the assistance of a human. Radio-frequency identification (RFID) is another prominent aspect of the IoT that facilitates object tracking through objects with RFID tags. It is ubiquitous in many of the industry applications, whereby traceability, access control, and logistics are achieved. Software-defined networking (SDN) is a networking scheme that allows the nodes in the network to be supervised via programming. Objective: In the IoT, the M2M, RFID, and SDN technologies play a vital role in facilitating autonomous communication as feasible. In this chapter, the significance of M2M, RFID, and SDN are explained briefly.KeywordsSmart objectM2MAutomationRFIDWireless networkSDN
