Abstract

This paper presents the application of Response Surface Methodology (RSM) to study the machinability aspects in turning of unreinforced (PA6) and reinforced (PA66 GF30) polyamides using Polycrystalline Diamond (PCD) tool. The non-linear mathematical models have been developed to study the effects of cutting speed and feed rate on machining force, cutting power and specific cutting force. The analysis reveals that machining force and cutting power increase with feed rate for PA6 and PA66 GF30. On the other hand, specific cutting force decreases with increase in feed rate for PA6, while it is minimal at 0.15 mm/rev for PA66 GF30 polyamides.
