Abstract
The purpose of current study is to select best turning parameters at which the machined AL 7075 – WC – Glass fiber composite material surface fineness becomes best. This project deals with the fabrication of Hybrid Composite by heating Al 7075 in furnace at a temperature of around 1200 C. Fiber Glass & Tungsten Carbide will be added to the molten Al 7075 with changing weight fractions by application-based strength criteria of the rule of mixtures and stirred thoroughly. Then the resulting mixture will be poured into the mould to obtain hybrid composite casting. Aluminium alloy (7075) is the matrix metal used in the present investigation. Tungsten and Fiber Glass are used as the reinforcement materials to produce the composite. The process is followed by the finishing machining processes to get the required raw material for turning. This project also involves in optimization of process parameters in turning process using Taguchi method in order to obtain effective Surface Roughness. Taguchi method is a better method for optimization of various machining parameters as it reduces the number of experiments. It is implemented by three machining parameters namely spindle speed, feed rate and depth of cut. The range of cutting parameters at three levels are spindle speed (1800, 2000 and 2200 rpm), feed rate (0.05, 0.075 and 0.1 mm/rev), depth of cut (0.4, 0.5 and 0.75 mm) respectively. Various experiments are made by varying one parameter and keeping other two fixed so that optimized value of each parameter can be obtained through which we can obtain effective surface roughness.
