Abstract

Lung neuroendocrine tumors (LNETs) are rare cancers subdivided into low-grade (typical) and intermediate-grade (atypical) carcinoids. Atypical carcinoids are more aggressive, with a 4- to 6-fold increased risk of developing metastatic disease and to relapse within the first 10 years after surgical treatment. We performed the first comprehensive molecular characterization of lung carcinoids and identified 3 robust molecular clusters; A1, A2 and B (Alcala, Nature Com., 2019; Gabriel, Gigascience, 2020).
