Abstract
The emergency extraction referral is problematic for the oral and maxillofacial surgeon. The referral often mandates compromises the existing office schedule thereby diminishing the surgeon's ability to deliver optimum customer service to existing scheduled patients. However, declining the emergency referral may influence current or future relationships with the referring doctor. The delivery of this emergency care is usually focused around relieving pain and not delivering definitive care for the missing tooth.
