Abstract

Contact dermatitis is typically caused by exposure to allergens or irritants. However, certain substances only cause rash following activation by UVA-radiation. History and exam are critical in the challenging task of discerning the cause of a contact dermatitis. While dermatitis following exposure to citrus is rare, citrus fruits and few other plant groups contain furocoumarins that can sensitize the skin to develop a rash following exposure to sunlight. We present the case of a mother who developed lip-swelling and perioral dermatitis in the outdoors after receiving a kiss from her son.
