Abstract

Magnetic transitions in charmonium are calculated by use of the Bethe-Salpeter formalism in the pseudopotential approximation. The relativistic corrections suppress the nonrelativistic widths by about 25% for the allowed decays. Allowing for hyperfine mixing, good agreement with the recent experimental measurements is obtained for both allowed and hindered transitions with an anomalous magnetic moment $|\ensuremath{\mu}|\ensuremath{\approx}0.6$ of the $c$ quark.
