Abstract

Nocardiosis is an uncommon bacterial infection primarily seen in immunocompromised individuals, particularly those with cellular immune dysfunctions. Nocardia is an intracellular organism that survives inside host macrophages. Nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain 2 (NOD2) is an intracellular pathogen recognition sensor that protects hosts against organisms like Nocardia. We present a case of disseminated nocardiosis in a patient with hypogammaglobulinemia found to have an increased allele risk mutation on NOD2.
