Abstract

Transnasal small-caliber esophagogastroduodenoscopy (TN-EGD) is better tolerated by patients than conventional transoral esophagogastroduodenoscopy (TO-EGD). Endoscopic procedures are performed for elderly and critically ill patients with increasing frequency, however, there is scant information concerning the relative safety of TN-EGD. In particular, the effects of TN-EGD on cardiac function in elderly patients have not been fully investigated. The aim of this prospective, randomized study was to compare the effects of TN-EGD and TO-EGD on cardiac function in elderly patients with congestive heart failure.
