Abstract

One of the major problems in using the interacting boson fermion model is its inability to predict magnetic dipole transition rates accurately. At least part of this problem is shown to be the neglect of quadrupole core-particle correlations. The effects of including such correlations are discussed with reference to the odd-even nuclei 107, 109Ag, 197Au and 103Rh.
