Abstract

Localized facial flushing in the auriculotemporal nerve (ATN) distribution is known as Frey syndrome. It is triggered by gustation, and may be associated with hyperhidrosis and pruritis. Most likely caused by injury or aberration of the autonomic component of the ATN where the cutaneous sympathetic nerves become enervated by parasympathetic nerves intended for the parotid gland. This results in flushing and warmth after eating. We report on a case of Frey Syndrome.
