Abstract

ISSUE: All healthcare settings are affected by the emergence and transmission of Multi-resistant resistant organisms (MDRO's). Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is one example of a MDRO. The prevention and control of MRSA is a priority at the state and national level. The severity and extent of disease caused by this pathogen varies by the population(s) affected and by the institution (s) in which they are found. Both Community Acquired MRSA and Hospital Acquired MRSA have the potential to increase morbidity, increase length of stay, increase cost, and increase mortality.
