The meaning of proper names always attracted the scientists of different humanitarian spheres. The researchers of literary texts also paid much attention to the names of characters since special semantics is hidden in such names. In this article we deal with M. D. Chulkov’s novel written in the 18th century. Here the linguistic and cultural analysis of the names in the novel “The Comely Cook or A Dissolute Woman’s Progress” has been made.
