Abstract

Purpose: In the tear film lysozyme, which makes up approximately 35% of the total protein detected, functions primarily as a bacteriolytic enzyme in the innate defense of the ocular surfaces. Recently interest in this protein has focused on the effect of different lens materials on lysozyme denaturation. The aim of this work was to identify factors associated with both lens material structure and assay techniques that affect lysozyme denaturation.
