Abstract

AbstractLysogeny could until now not be shown for methylotrophic bacteria or for Acetobacter. In this paper we demonstrate the lysogenic state in a methylotrophic strain of the genus Acetobacter. The responsible temperate phage MO 1 belongs to group A of BRADLEY's classification system and contains double stranded DNA. Phage MO 1 was characterized by the following properties: Host range, sensitivity against environmental factors, serological behaviour, burst size, and latent period in one‐step growth experiments, and especially by its response to inducing factors.
