Abstract

PAPERS I and II of this series (Lucas, and Lucas and Oakberg) reported investigations of the normality of lymphoid tissue in the pancreas of chickens and its relationship to lymphomatosis. It was observed that the percentage of lymphoid tissue in the pancreas of the survivors of Laboratory inbred lines of chickens was significantly correlated beyond the one percent level with the percentage of lymphomatosis mortality preceding the termination date which averaged 613 days of age. Only four percent of survivors showed gross lesions of lymphomatosis and in no case was the pancreas involved. When Laboratory chickens were compared with samples of Farm chickens there was no significant difference between the percentage of lymphoid tissue in the birds from the two sources but when Laboratory chickens were divided into two groups (lines showing a low or a high incidence of lymphomatosis) there were significant differences and Farm birds fell into an .
