Abstract
The history of lymphogranuloma inguinale, for which name Durand, Nicolas and Favre1are responsible, dates back at least to 1859, when the French surgeon Chassaignac2described this disease entity. According to Hellerstrom,3the description of some buboes given by Greek, Roman and Arabian physicians coincides with the clinical picture of lymphogranuloma inguinale. There is an interesting and extensive literature on this subject, particularly since the introduction of the intradermal test by Frei4in 1925, known since then as the Frei test. Of the many papers written on this subject I wish to mention the thesis by Phylactos5in 1922, the monographs by Fischl6in 1927 and that by Hellerstrom3in 1929; of papers written in this country, one by Pardo-Castello7and a comparatively recent one by DeWolf and Van Cleve.8 Lymphogranuloma inguinale is a venereal disease.
