Abstract

A 46-year-old woman was referred for a 1-year history of symptomatic persistent anemia requiring repeated blood transfusion. Her medical history was only remarkable for acquired hypothyroidism. She denied any recent history of weight loss or hematochezia. She previously underwent esophagogastroduodenoscopy and colonoscopy, which revealed no source of bleeding. She received a transfusion every 2 months before admission and again 2 weeks before. A computed tomography scan of the abdomen was performed approximately 1 year before presentation, which was negative.
