Abstract

Background: The presence of positive lymph nodes in colorectal cancer patients predicts a greater risk of disease recurrence than negative lymph nodes and studies have shown that survival is worse when relatively few lymph nodes are sampled, particularly for stages II and III. Therefore, adequate lymph node evaluation is required for proper staging and adjuvant therapy decision making in colon cancer.
