Abstract

Among the many painted representations of the Gigantomachy, the most comprehensive black-figured example is the one painted on the dinos signed by Lydos and dedicated on the Akropolis. But, because this vase is so fragmentary, the composition of the Gigantomachy has not received the attention it deserves. Examination of the fragments and comparison with other Gigantomachies, particularly some on Akropolis vases, allow us to make reconstruction drawings to scale of Lydos's illustration and to visualize more fully this most important black-figure example that has come down to us.
