Abstract

Advanced haematological malignancies can have among the bleakest prognoses, with life expectancies reduced to weeks instead of months or years. Recent drastic improvements have occurred, though, owing to “a new therapeutic weapon”, relates Álvaro Urbano-Ispizua. He serves as director of the Department of Haematology and Oncology at the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona and is also both full professor of medicine and the director of the Department of Medicine at the School of Medicine, University of Barcelona.
