Abstract
In lung transplantation, ischemia-reperfusion injury(IRI) due to preservation and subsequent reperfusion causes significant transplant damage. It is one of the main reasons for high mortality after lung transplantation.Lung is vulnerable to pathological damage.Condition impairing the alveolar oxygenation or pulmonary blood flow will finally result in lung ischemia. The rigorous anoxic ischemia due to the interruption of both pulmonary bloodstream and ventilation for up to several hours are inevitable in lung transplantation. An imbalance in metabolic supply and demand within the ischemic organ results in profound tissue hypoxia and microvascular dysfunction.Subsequent reperfusion further enhances the activation of innate and adaptive immune responses and cell death program. Thus to explore the immune pathways involved in lung transplant ischemia-reperfusion injury and its protection has an important practical significance. Key words: Lung transplants; Ischemia reperfusion injury; Lung protection; Immunologic mechanism
