Abstract
On Friday 22 July about 150 guests including the Council of the Royal Society, Higher Officers of the University of London and the London County Council and the University of London Honorary Graduands were entertained to lunch at the County Hall in the presence of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother. Their Majesties The King and Queen of Sweden, His Excellency the Swedish Ambassador, the Lord Lieutenant and the Countess Alexander of Tunis and the Mayor and Mayoress of Lambeth were also among the Company. Mrs Florence G. Cayford, J.P., Chairman of the Council, received the principal guests at the Members’ Entrance. After lunch had been served in the Conference Hall, the Chairman of the Council first proposed the Loyal Toast and then ‘The King and Queen of Sweden’.
