Abstract

Being in Japan made me fully able to articulate what I was enjoying about Africa. Japanese culture was able to articulate certain cultural tropes to such a high degree that an incorporation of modernity and tradition became possible. Here was a culture that could do that very easily and the world could understand it. I suddenly realized that there was no reason that an African aesthetic or an African way of life couldn’t be contemporaneous with contemporary culture.
