Halliday, Ian Abstract Visual MK classifications and luminosity measures made with the help of an oscilloscopic microphotometer have been determined for 227 stars in the spectral range G8-K1, from spectrograms with a dispersion of 33 A/mm An analysis of the luminosities leads to a relative luminosity function which shows a distinct m inimum in the region of the subgiants Spectroscopic parallaxes and space motions are computed for all the stars. For 24 stars the component of the space motion in the galactic plane is 65 km/sec or more.
