Abstract

The absorption, cathodoluminescence and photoluminescence (PL) spectra as well as PL decay kinetics of Mn doped Y3Al5O12 (YAG:Mn) single crystalline films (SCF) with manganese concentration in the 0.002–0.2at.% range, grown by the LPE method from PbO to B2O3 based flux onto YAG substrates, were analyzed in this work. The special goal was spectroscopic determination of valence states of manganese ions which are realized in these SCF depending on Mn content. In SCF with Mn content (0.002–0.02at.%), the incorporation of Mn4+ and Mn2+ ions was found. The absorption and emission spectra of YAG:Mn SCF at higher (0.02–0.2at.%) content confirmed that the main valence state of manganese ions is Mn3+ state.
